State Land Worth Rs 18 Lakh Retrieved From Alleged Drug Peddler in South Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, along with officials of the district administration, on Wednesday retrieved six marlas of State land worth nearly Rs 18 lakh from the illegal possession of an alleged drug peddler in Wanpora village of Qaimoh area.

Officials said the land, falling under Survey No. 303 in Wanpora, had been encroached upon by Mohd. Ramzan Sheikh, son of Juma Sheikh, a resident of Wanpora, who is involved in multiple narcotics-related cases registered at Police Station Qaimoh.

According to police, the accused is named in FIR No. 69/2023 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act and FIR No. 20/2023 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act.

The retrieved land has been taken into possession by the concerned authorities under provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Revenue Act and other applicable laws. Notices have also been affixed at the site, while further legal proceedings are underway.

Police said the action forms part of the ongoing crackdown against drug peddlers and anti-social elements, particularly those involved in illegal occupation of State land or deriving benefits from unlawful activities.

JK Police also appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing credible information related to drug trafficking and other criminal activities to help ensure a safer and drug-free society.
