College students in valley are up in arms against University of Kashmir, over hike in exam fee.
The examination of the 2nd semester in colleges is likely to be held this month and students have been asked to pay examination fee that is relatively higher than previous years.
Moreover, by introducing semester system in colleges, students say, they have to pay twice in a single year that too so high.
On Tuesday, scores of students from Government run Degree Colleges in Sopore and Baramulla came on roads shouting anti-Kashmir University slogans. The students are refusing to pay the fee till the hike is not rolled back.
According to students, earlier they had to pay only rupees 1150 annual exam fee but this time they have to pay much higher, for only a semester.
“We are asked to pay Rs 1700 for our 2nd semester wherein earlier it was only 1150 for a year. We have already paid 1150 in 1st semester,” said Sajad Ahmad, 2nd Semester BJMC student in Government Degree College Baramulla.
In Sopore, students blocked highway near Degree College which brought traffic to standstill. The students were protesting against fee hike. Students shouted slogans against ruling PDP and Education Minister Naeem Akhtar.
If the fee is compared from previous years students are asked to pay more than double exam fee annually.
