While strongly condemning the slapping of PSA on another Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) senior leader and district president Baramulla Ameer Hamzah Shah and shifting him to Kuthua district jail, Chairperson Hurriyat Conference (g) Syed Ali Geelani Thursday said that the state has been “practically converted into a police state and the law and order is nowhere visible on the ground”.
He also expressed his deep concern over the continuous imprisonment of other pro-freedom leaders including Masarat Alam Bhat, Abdul Gani Bhat Sopore, Mir Hafizullah Islamabad, Mehraj-ud-din Rabbanni HMT, Mohammad Amin Parray, Nazir Ahmad Rather Bandipora, Assadullah Parray, Hakeem Showkat Ahmad, Peerzada Wasim Nawakadal and Mehraj-ud-din Nandah and said, “the government is playing a very dangerous game by not allowing the political space to the pro-freedom people and this situation is increasing the political uncertainty and instability in the state.”
In a statement to KNS, Syed Ali Geelani said that the PSA has been termed as a cruel and “lawless law” by the international institutions and invoking of this kind of black law on the civilians has been termed as the worst kind of human rights violation. “But this law is being unabatedly used in Jammu & Kashmir and the government here is imprisoning the people for years together just to suppress their peaceful voices.”
“Ameer Hamzah Shah is a prominent political leader and all his activities are of political nature. He had done nothing like that which could have become the bases for his detention. But despite all this he was detained in police station for many weeks and was today shifted to Kuthua jail under the PSA,” Geelani said in the statement.
He also termed the shifting of Ameer Hamza to Kathua jail instead of any other jail in the Valley as a “cruel and unconstitutional step” and said, “the Indian Supreme Court had itself passed this ruling that a detainee should be kept in the jail which is nearest to his home so that he can easily meet his family and kids.”
Geelani, who continues to remain uuder house detention, said that the shifting of Ameer Hamzah to such a jail which is hundreds of miles away from his home is just a “vengeance policy”. “The police and the administration are at war with the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders and activists and in just two and a half months our 10 leaders have been booked under this black law.”
Geelani strongly condemned the arrest of dozens of civilians in Hajan Sonawari including Abdul Hameed Bhat, Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, Irshad Ahmad Parray, Mohammad Ayoub Parray, Mohsin Dar, Abdul Majeed Lone, Ghulam Mohammad Wani, Talib Wani, Mudasir Majeed, Mehraj-ud-din Dar, Zubair Ahmad Dar, Gulzar Ahmad Dar, Raja Parray, Raja Parray and Manzoor Ahmad Khan and cautioned that this daily routine of detentions and arrests will have very serious consequences.
He appealed the human rights organizations to take serious notice of the miserable condition of the Kashmiri prisoners and use their influence for their release.
Meanwhile, Syed Ali Geelani expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the death of the grandfather of a prominent journalist of Valley Afaq Ahmad Bhat, Geelani prayed for peace to the departed soul.
On the directions of Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (g) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar, secretary health Mohammad Ashraf Laya and Mustafa Sultan, Press Cell, visited the Sanatnagar residence of Afaq and expressed their sympathy with the bereaved family and extended condolence message of Syed Ali Geelani to them.
Syed Ali Geelani in his condolence message said that we equally share the grief of the Bhat family and pray to Almighty Allah to grant them patience to bear this great loss.
