Kargil Airport has always remained idle because of the security threat.

Mantra Airlines, a little known private airlines after many visits to the area and deliberations with the defense experts, finally dared to land it’s trial aircraft on the chilly and hilly airport.

The Minister for CA&PD and Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon along with a team of officers from Mantra Airlines and Director Civil Aviation J&K Katoch landed at Airport Kargil. The officials discussed security and other related issues and decided that the service will start officially before the closer of Zojjila Pass.

In recent past, several defense and Air India experts were inspecting and looking for possibilities of Regular Civil Service from Kargil to outside Kargil for redressing the problem of connectivity of Kargil.

The teams also had a number of meetings with the concerned authorities and these teams also inspected the Air port Kargil for finding the possibilities of Air Service from Kargil.
