SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, expressed his hope for snowfall in Kashmir on Tuesday, emphasising its significance for power projects and the tourism sector.

Speaking at an event in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, LG Sinha highlighted the current dry winter conditions in Kashmir. “I pray for snow as power projects need to function; otherwise, they will become defunct. Snowfall is also crucial to sustain the tourism sector,” he remarked.

The LG mentioned that Gulmarg attracted 13 lakh tourists last year, with snow being a major draw. He added, “Six new destinations have been added to the list in Baramulla district, but in the absence of snow, tourists might prefer to stay away.”

LG Sinha informed that elections for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayats would commence soon after the completion of reservations for OBCs. “The process is underway, and once completed, elections for ULBs and Panchayats will be conducted,” he stated.

Encouraging the residents of Baramulla to actively participate in the Jhanda ooncha Rahay Hamara program on Republic Day, January 26, the LG said, “I want the skies of Baramulla to be filled with Tiranga.”

He noted that Baramulla district is progressing in various aspects with the enthusiastic involvement of the youth. (KNO)
