SRINAGAR: In the municipal polls, currently underway for phase-II, there were instances that the elderlies defied the boycott call and overtook the youth who were unwilling to exercise their right of franchise.

Ghulam Hassan Mir who said he aged 130 cast his vote in Degree College Sumbal. This evolving town witnessed brisk polling and had lone lines around. A local resident, he was brought to the college polling booth by his relatives including his son. When a reporter asked him his age, his son said 110. But Mir was quick to correct: “Do not tell a lie, I am 130.”
The two young men were moving slowly home after the vote was cast. Mir is too frail and weak to stay standing in absence of some help.
In Aloochi Bagh area of Srinagar, an old lady cast her vote and flaunted the indelible ink mark to the cameras around. Polling staff said the lady was the fourth voter to the booth. She said her name was Rehti and she was 90 years of age.

Aloochi Bagh has a couple of polling stations within and outside the silk factory premises. In one of the stations located within the silk factory premises, there were quite a few voters when Kashmir Life visited it. The polling staff under a tight security cordon was busy gossiping.
