SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has acquitted a Shopian teacher, convicted of raping an 8th-class student back in 2015, citing weak and shaky evidence.

The court in Shopian initially sentenced Mohammad Maqbool Ganie to 20 years in prison and imposed a Rs 10 lakh fine for the rape of a minor seven years ago.

However, the High Court found that the evidence did not convincingly prove his guilt.

The court deemed the evidence weak, fragile, and lacking credibility, making it dangerous to hold him guilty. Consequently, he was acquitted, and the appeal was closed.
