Prof Majeed Muzmar

(April 30, 1954 – July 25, 2013)

 Prof-Majid-MuzmarA well-known academician, fiction writer and language critic Prof Abdul Majeed Mir breathed his last on Thursday after brief illness. He was 59 and is survived by his wife, son and a daughter.

Famous by his pen name Majeed Muzmar, he was working as Professor and Head of the Urdu Department and Dean Faculty of Arts in the University of Kashmir. He joined the department in 1986.

Hailing from Badusgam village of South Kashmir, Prof Muzmar has more than one dozen books and around 50 research papers to his credit.

He had also translated three monographs from English into Urdu published by Sahitya Academy.

He had been writing scripts for Radio and Television and drama serials for TV and participating in literary programs for the last more than 30 years.

Prof Muzmar had a Teaching Experience of around 2 years at undergraduate level and 26 years at post-graduate level during which he guided /supervised 21 M. Phil and 08 PhD scholars.

Prof Muzmar had an experience of 15 years as an Editor with Research journal “Bazyaft” of Department of Urdu. He also remained member editorial board of the University magazine “Gulala” for several years.

Vice-Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad while expressing his grief over the sudden demise of Prof Muzmar visited the bereaved family where he offered his condolences and paid tributes in the memory of Prof Muzmar.

“Prof Muzmar was as a thorough gentleman and a reputed Urdu scholar,” Prof Talat said. “He had highly contributed to the corporate life of the University during his illustrious career as an academician.”
