In a new twist to the property transfer controversy taken by Syed Ali Geelani, Geelani’s parent organization Jammat-e-Islami (JeI) on Wednesday said that it will explore all possible options to get back ‘its’ property presently in possession of the Milli Trust.
Mohammad Abdullah Wani, Ameer-e-Jammat, Jammu and Kashmir told local news gathering agency, KNS that JeI is concerned about the property and the organisation will take necessary steps to safeguard the same.
“We know that he (Geelani) left for Delhi but we will send our delegation there to meet him as the matter is becoming very serious,” Wani said. “We will talk to Geelani sahib so that the issue could be resolved at the earliest.”
Wani added: “If Geelani sahib still negates our claim then I will again call the Shora meet (Central council) of JeI so that the future strategy could be finalized.” He added that it has been unanimously agreed by all the cadres of JeI that it will not ‘hide the truth’.
Substantiating his claims, Ameer JeI stated that he has all the legal and sound evidences that proves that the property donated by Geelani belongs to JeI. He added that when the income tax department came to Geelani and asked him to provide the details of his assets, he vehemently argued that property in his possession at Hydepora belongs to JeI. “Geelnai Sahib’s statement is in the possession of the Income Tax department and we can get the same if need arises.”
The JeI head stated further that Geelani in several public rallies has mentioned that his property at Hyderpora belongs to Jamaat. Elaborating further, Wani said that the property, lying in the possession of Geelani, was purchased when Hakeem Ghulam Nabi was heading the Jamaat in the state.
“The residential house was already constructed during the period of purchase and the office outside (housing Tehreek Huriyat office at present) was constructed by Jamaat later,” said Wani, adding, “Hakeem sahib decided to handover the property to Geelani sahib as he was important figure of Jamaat at the time. Even when he separated from Jamaat and established Tehreek-e-Huriyat, Jamat decided that the property will continue to remain in possession of Geelani till his death and after that Jammat will decide the further course.”
Wani said that there are various properties of Jammat across the state in the name of various members. “There is property in my name also but I am not the owner. It is Jammat to whom people donate the property. We are just the custodians of the same.”
“Geelani sahib in actual tried to transfer the property of Jamaat to Tehreek Huriyat as all the trustees of Mili trust belong to Tehreek Huriyat and no one from Jamat,” said Ameer Jamat.
He added further that in the past Mohammad Ramzan lone donated the property to Jammat at Soura. The property is registered in the name of former Ameer Jamat Syed Sad-ud-din. Similarly, said Wani, we have 100 kanlas of land that were donated by Peer Ghulam Mohamad Khan to Jamat at Shopian .
“The property is registered in the name of Hakeem Abdul Rashid but he doesn’t claim that it is his property. People donate for the cause of Islam and we cannot claim anything out of that.” He added that in the same way the property of Hyderpora is registered in the name of Geelani but in actual belongs to JeI JK and the senior separatist was its custodian and not the owner.
