On September 22, Bhat embarked on a remarkable cycling expedition to Karnah, a border town situated 165 km from Srinagar along the Line of Control. Accompanied by seven seasoned cyclists, he was the sole amateur among them. Despite the challenging terrain and the demanding 12-hour journey, Bhat completed the ride, underscoring his physical endurance and indomitable spirit. The group celebrated their achievement with a dinner on the banks of the Neelam River before returning home by car, reaching by 11 pm.

In recognition of this extraordinary feat, the Kashmir International Biking Association honoured Bhat on International Mountain Day, acknowledging his dedication and perseverance.

Bhat’s passion for the environment is equally commendable. Over the years, he has been instrumental in afforestation efforts across Kashmir. Collaborating with the Forest Department and the Islamic University, he has spearheaded initiatives to plant thousands of trees, aiming to restore the region’s lush greenery. Notably, in the Sukhnag forest range, he and his team planted 10,000 trees this year alone, contributing significantly to combating deforestation.

His dedication has earned him the moniker Tree Man of Kashmir. Bhat’s vision is ambitious: to plant 10 lakh trees by 2030, ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for the valley. His efforts have transformed barren lands into verdant forests, revitalizing ecosystems and inspiring local communities to participate in environmental conservation.

Bhat’s journey from a self-taught mechanic to a prominent businessman and environmental advocate is a testament to his resilience and commitment. His life story serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that with passion and determination, one can make a significant impact on society and the environment.

Through his endeavours, Abdu Hamid Bhat continues to pedal forward, driven by a vision of a greener, more sustainable Kashmir.
