The budget of the state assembly is scheduled to begin tomorrow with the opposition parties all set to corner the government over hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru and its handling of the resulting situation.

Main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is all set to ‘gherao’ the ruling coalition in the legislative assembly on Thursday over various issues. The party held an important meeting of its legislator on Wednesday evening at Jammu to chalk out a plan for cornering the government of a range of issues.

“CM has failed to save the life of Mohammad Afzal Guru and has even failed to bring his body back. He has insulted the chair and has turned the institution of CM ineffective”, Mehbooba Mufti told a local news agency, KNS over phone from Jammu.

She said that corruption, killing and atrocities are the main issues which people expect them to raise in the assembly.

“The post execution situation is condemnable. Government has turned the whole Valley into a virtual prison and even the children were forced to stay inside. Curfew was imposed in whole Valley making people to suffer. The government left them to mercy of God. It has failed on every level and has failed to on the progress and development front as well”, she added.

Peoples Democratic Front Chairman Hakim Mohammad Yasin said that his party will raise all the issues pertaining to common people. “Unemployment, human rights violations and other genuine issues of the people will be raised in the interest o f peopled. We’ll demand the return of mortal remains of the Guru”, said Yasin.

When asked whether his party will join the voices of main opposition PDP, “No, why should I join their voices but yes I’ll raise the issues which are pertaining to common people”, he replied.

CPI (M) State General Secretary M Y Tarigami said that he will raise and press the government for the return of mortal remains of the Guru, adding, “All other issues related to public interest will be raised and the government will be accountable on the floor. It cannot shy away from its responsibilities”.
