SRINAGAR: In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India has allocated the ‘bucket’ symbol to the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), led by former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

A spokesperson for the party confirmed the allocation of the ‘bucket’ symbol by the Election Commission, marking a crucial step for the DPAP as it prepares to contest in the upcoming polls.

Interestingly, the DPAP is currently engaged in discussions with the Altaf Bukhari-led Apni Party for a potential alliance. Sources suggest that negotiations are at an advanced stage, with both parties exploring the possibility of joining forces. Ghulam Nabi Azad is anticipated to contest from the Anantnag constituency in the forthcoming elections.

Amidst these developments, Ghulam Nabi Azad had previously advocated for the Election Commission of India to schedule the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir one month after the Lok Sabha elections. This suggestion underscores the party’s commitment to ensuring a fair and democratic electoral process in the region.

The discussions between the DPAP and the Apni Party have gained considerable attention within political circles, with speculations rife about the potential implications of an alliance between the two parties. As both parties inch closer to a decision, anticipation mounts regarding the announcement of any formal agreement in the coming week.

The allocation of the ‘bucket’ symbol symbolises a new chapter in the political journey of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, as it gears up to contest the Lok Sabha elections and potentially reshape the political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.
