SRINAGAR: An Air India flight from Birmingham to New Delhi was diverted to Riyadh late on Saturday after a bomb threat was received, the airline announced on Sunday.
Flight AI114, scheduled to land in Delhi, was rerouted to Saudi Arabia as a precaution. It landed safely and underwent thorough security inspections. All passengers deplaned and were provided with hotel accommodation while alternative arrangements were made to continue their journey.
This incident follows the June 12 Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which led the airline to introduce enhanced pre-flight safety checks and temporarily reduce services to ensure operational stability.
In its statement, Air India acknowledged that despite these measures, external factors such as Middle East airspace restrictions, curfews at airports in Europe and East Asia, air traffic congestion, and other operational challenges, can still result in flight disruptions.
