SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday expressed concern over the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran and called for immediate de-escalation through dialogue.
“We can only hope and pray the war stops. The situation is serious and should not have occurred,” Abdullah told reporters during his visit to Ganderbal.
Questioning Israel’s actions, he said, “Just days ago, the US intelligence chief told Congress that Iran is not close to acquiring nuclear weapons. If that is the case, what prompted the Israeli attack?”
He said political motives could be behind the developments but stressed the need to break the cycle of violence and pursue resolution through talks.
Abdullah, during his constituency tour, inaugurated a marriage hall and laid the foundation stone for a bridge, terming them long-pending demands.
On the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Abdullah expressed hope for high pilgrim turnout and assured that arrangements related to infrastructure and medical support were in place. He said security arrangements would be handled by the Lieutenant Governor and Raj Bhavan.
