CM Omar Reviews Mubarak Mandi Restoration, Seeks Timely Completion

   

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday inspected the ongoing restoration and development works at the historic Mubarak Mandi Complex in Jammu. The visit included a detailed briefing on the multi-phase project aimed at conserving and reviving the heritage structure of the former Dogra royal palace.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Advisor to the Government, Nasir Aslam Wani, and Member Legislative Assembly Yudhvir Sethi. During the site visit, Principal Secretary Culture, Brij Mohan Sharma, and Executive Director Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, Deepika Sharma, outlined the implementation status and various components of the project.

Officials informed that the restoration is being carried out zone-wise, with the master plan dividing the complex into six sections, including public interaction spaces, knowledge centres, experiential areas, and a crafts bazaar. The project also includes development of a library-cum-café under the Jammu Smart City Mission, alongside proposals for a span bridge and lifts to enhance accessibility.

The Chief Minister stressed prioritising the central courtyard’s development to make the site more accessible and appealing to the public. He directed officers to ensure that the entrance reflects the heritage value of the site and called for timely completion of all pending works.

Highlighting the importance of cultural integration, Omar Abdullah urged that local Dogra crafts be promoted through curated events and dedicated spaces within the complex. He also reviewed project-related challenges and infrastructure requirements, emphasising long-term sustainability of the restoration effort.

Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani reiterated the need to balance historical authenticity with the expectations of modern visitors, stating that Mubarak Mandi should evolve into a vibrant and accessible heritage destination.

The Mubarak Mandi Complex is being developed as a multi-functional cultural centre, incorporating museum spaces, event venues, and hospitality units, while preserving its architectural identity. Senior officers including Joint Commissioner JMC Subah Mehta, Superintending Engineer PWD Ashwani Kangotra, and officials from the Jammu Smart City project were also present.
