Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir strongly denounces the ongoing arrest spree by police and other forces across the valley, terms it murder of democracy and appealed Human Rights Groups, United Nations Organization and OIC to intervene into grave situation prevailed in state of Jammu and Kashmir and use their influence to stop the lawlessness at the hands of forces, said the statement.
The statement said, “state government while misusing its power is trying to appease BJP and other communal forces and have unleashed atmosphere of terror across the valley wherein hundreds of young and old having religious tilt have detained under baseless grounds. The repressive policy adopted by the state authority clearly smells bad and thus are trying to choke every peaceful political exercise in and around.”
“Since two days police have arrested hundreds of Jama’at members including its top brass leadership. On Sunday Jama’at chief Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz has been produced before District Magistrate Budgam who sent him to central jail Srinagar under judicial custody till March 2 2019,” said the statement.
Meanwhile, Jama’at’s deputy Chief Moulana Ahmad Ullah Parray (Makki) was also detained by Islamabad police along with famous religious scholar Peer Noor-ud-din. Besides this, dozens of Tehsil leadership from south to north have also been arrested. Moreover, police also detained Jamiat Ahle-Hadith deputy Moulana Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri, Moulana Mohammad Maqbool Akhurni and many other religious leaders from different organizations, it said.
Jama’at vehemently condemned the arrest spree by police and terms it an undemocratic and gross violation of human rights.
“Jama’at mentioned that any untoward act by Delhi of scrapping Article 35A is unacceptable for people of Jammu and Kashmir, impress upon UNO to take strong cognizance of repressive measures by Delhi,” said the statement.
