Crackdown on Traffic Violators, Rs 7.98 Lakh Fined in One Day

   

SRINAGAR: The Motor Vehicles Department, led by Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, conducted a crackdown on traffic violators across various districts in Kashmir on Saturday.

The operation focused on major violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, including driving without fitness certificates, overloading, non-compliance with seat belt laws, underage driving, and other offences. A total of 2,338 vehicles, ranging from buses and school buses to goods carriers and private vehicles, were inspected during the drive. Out of these, 586 vehicles were challaned for various infractions, such as driving without helmets, seat belt violations, overloading, and lack of valid fitness and insurance certificates. Additionally, 11 vehicles were seized, and fines amounting to Rs 7.98 lakh were imposed.

The enforcement drive spanned multiple districts, including Srinagar, Pulwama, Baramulla, Kulgam, and Ganderbal. Srinagar witnessed the highest collection of fines at Rs 2.22 lakh, followed by significant actions in Kulgam and Ganderbal.

RTO Kashmir called on community leaders, religious figures, and educators to play an active role in promoting awareness about traffic rules and road safety, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to foster a culture of responsibility and compliance among citizens.

The Motor Vehicles Department has urged all residents to adhere to traffic regulations to help create safer roads for everyone.
