SRINAGAR: In an effort to enhance its operational capabilities, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has introduced a ‘Wheeled Armoured Amphibious Platform’ (WHAP) vehicle in Kashmir, designed for both land and water operations.

An official revealed that the WHAP is an 8×8 vehicle jointly developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Tata Motors, featuring a seating capacity for twelve individuals. This vehicle is also recognized as the TATA Kestrel.

“The vehicle is equipped with advanced communication systems and is capable of functioning on both land and water,” he stated. Its amphibious capabilities will enable it to access areas that are otherwise unreachable by conventional vehicles, marking a significant enhancement in the CRPF’s operations in Kashmir.

Gyanendra Kumar Verma, Inspector General of the Kashmir Operations Sector at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), commented, “Over time, we have been diligently working to enhance our operational efficiency. We are introducing new tools and equipment to provide our personnel with the best facilities.”

Verma added, “We have incorporated this vehicle to improve our technical capabilities, and in due course, everyone will become familiar with its features.”

The CRPF’s Kashmir Operations Sector tweeted, “Gyanendra Kumar Verma, IG KO SCRPF, visited 110 Bn Pulwama today to review the deployment. His visit included a close inspection of the newly inducted Wheeled Armoured Amphibious Platform (WHAP) vehicle. Strengthening our capabilities to ensure safety & security.” (KNO)
