SRINAGAR: Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma on Tuesday called for urgent action on long-pending demands of daily wage workers and stressed the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s full statehood, in response to the Address by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in the Assembly.
Speaking to Kashmir Life, Sharma described the daily wagers’ demands as “genuine” and urged the government to address their issues promptly. He reaffirmed that the struggle to restore the state to its former status would continue, referencing historical rulers Maharaja Hari Singh, Maharaja Gulab Singh and Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Sharma also highlighted concerns over rising drug abuse in the region, calling for a concerted effort to tackle the issue and alleging the involvement of various elements, including anti-national forces.
On the role of media, he emphasised that a strong and independent press is essential for a healthy democracy and assured protection for journalists.
The minister concluded by urging the central government to extend a special package from Delhi to address the needs of daily wage workers and other pressing regional concerns.
