SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said that all stakeholders associated with the tourism sector in the Union Territory, including hoteliers, houseboat owners, shikarawalas, travel operators and allied service providers, are required to obtain registration or renewal of licences along with multiple no-objection certificates (NOCs) from different departments.

The information was provided by the government in a written reply to a question raised by MLA Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed Pardesi in the Legislative Assembly.
In its reply, the government said that tourism stakeholders are mandated to obtain registration or renewal of licences under the JK Registration of Tourist Trade Act. It added that hotels, guest houses and houseboats are also required to secure NOCs from concerned line departments, including the Pollution Control Committee/Board, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Building Permission Issuing Authority, among others.
Responding to a query on whether the government plans to introduce a single-window, online, end-to-end service delivery system for registration and renewal of tourism-related licences, the department said the process is presently being carried out online through the Tourism Department’s portal.
The reply stated that integration of the Tourism Department portal with the government’s Single Window System, including online linkage with line departments for issuance of mandatory NOCs in a time-bound manner, is under consideration of the administrative department.
The MLA had also sought information on whether any assessment had been carried out regarding the financial losses suffered by tourism stakeholders during the year 2025 and the steps taken to provide financial support.
In response, the government said no assessment has been made regarding financial losses suffered by tourism stakeholders during the year 2025.(KNS)
