In an attempt to foil a pro-freedom rally, CRPF and police men raided a village in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district on Sunday morning.
Local reports from Zamalgam in Dooru area said that local populace had planned a pro-freedom rally today and people from adjoining villages were expected to join it.
“Men in uniform came around 8AM and fired tear gas canisters and pellets on the venue where some people had assembled and were preparing for the rally,” locals said.
They added that people came out of their homes to resist the excesses and clashes erupted.
“The rally was planned in the premises of Syed Fazil Shah Memorial School,” locals said.
“Intense tear gas shelling and stone pelting is going in this time,” locals said, “some eight persons have sustained minor injuries.
The locals said that the forces damaged at least two electricity transformers in the area.
Kashmir Life Correspondent who is present in the area had to flee for safety and cut the phone call short while giving details as tear gas shelling intensified.

50 Civilians Reach Pulwama Hospital For Treatment

Meanwhile, at least fifteen civilians injured in forces action South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Sunday morning managed to reach district hospital Pulwama.
Men in uniform including Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and police raided Karimabad village this morning.
Local said that forces damaged private property worth lakhs of rupees while at least 6 civilians were arrested.
“We have registered 50 civilian injuries so far from Karimabad village,” sources from the district hospital said.
Sources added that maximum of the injured persons are hit by pellets while twelve such injure people have been referred to Srinagar for advanced treatment.
“Many of the injured have fractured bones,” sources revealed.
Local reports from Karimabad said that forces used lathi-charge, fired pellets, tear gas canisters and bullets to quell the massive protests.
Meanwhile, three ambulances reached SMHS Hospital Srinagar ferrying injured from Pulwama. First two ambulances carried 20 injured civilians one of who was hit by bullet in abdomen.
“Scores of injured are being treated in local PHCs while many injured preferred not to go for fear of reprisals,” local sources said.
