SRINAGAR: Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, condemned the Botapathri attack on Friday and called for a stronger security grid in addition to the restoration of Statehood.
Wani expressed that such incidents should not occur, noting that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have endured violence for over three decades, with innocent lives continuing to be lost.
“Let better sense prevail across both sides, and let the neighbouring country refrain from interfering in these matters,” he said. “Words fall short in condemning such acts; these are taking lives and severely impacting peace.”
He commended the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their support of the democratic process after a long hiatus, stating that this has paved the way for democratic governance and a more peaceful future.
He stressed the importance of reviewing the security grid, highlighting that it requires strengthening. “This is why there are frequent calls for the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The dual control structure in JK is unworkable, with the LG responsible for the security grid and the Chief Minister overseeing other matters.”
He noted that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has experience governing Jammu and Kashmir, having served as Chief Minister previously and as head of the unified command. “We wish for the early restoration of Statehood and a unified command to tackle the situation.”
In response to Sajad Lone’s recent tweet, the Advisor said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had travelled to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and other officials. “They assured support for the state government and developmental aspects, in addition to statehood restoration, and we are hopeful that this will occur soon,” he said.
Regarding Engineer Rashid’s protest in Srinagar concerning the Darbar Move, he said, “Let him be accountable for his own responsibilities and roles. He should focus on the ground and address the people’s issues. Let him concentrate on North Kashmir. We are aware of his actions before and after elections.” (KNO)
