Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani Monday supported civil society’s move to organize a parallel programme to that of Zubin Mehta’s controversial concert to be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013.

In a press conference, during his continuous house arrest, Geelani said, “We have no problem with the programme of Civil Society.”

Responding to a question, Geelani said that civil society has a genuine role in the freedom movement. “If civil society organizes any protest in any form, it is in the interest of the movement.”

Pertinently, a civil society group has decided to organize a ‘parallel’ programme at Municipal Park on the same day when Zubin Mehta will be performing.  The civil society group has named its programme as ‘Haqeeqat-i-Kashmir’.

Meanwhile, media persons were allowed to enter the residence of Geelani’s only after registering their names. Police personnel deployed outside Geelani’s residence were asking the media persons to disclose their identity before entering for the coverage of the press conference.
