A 31-year-old woman from Sopore has committed suicide by hanging herself in her room. Working in HDFC bank, she according to her family members had left a note in which she blamed the HDFC Cluster head for the suicide.

The family sources said that “she was a divorcee and was living with her parents.”

On condition of anonymity, the HDFC official working in Kashmir told Kashmir Life that “the accused cluster head as per suicide note had told the deceased that her employment is on charity basis.”

Giving further details, the official said the woman was working with the bank before getting married and left the job after marriage. “She has cited reason that her in laws are against the interest income and have asked her to quit the job.”

The things took ugly turn and the marriage did not last long. The official said that she and her family requested for reappointment. “We don’t have a policy to re-appoint till completion of two years, but in her case we send the proposal to our head office and it was approved purely 0n compassionate grounds.”

Another official of the bank told Kashmir Life that cluster head has nothing to do with employees of the branch and the deceased was working as ‘Teller’. Regarding the visit of accused cluster head, the official said the last time he visited branch was on February 23, 2017 and had interacted with the concerned branch head.

The official also said that “there is complete mechanism in place for such complaints and all employees area aware.”

Kashmir Life contacted Media communication cell of HDFC in Mumbai. The official said that “we are greatly saddened by the incident.”

The top official of the bank further said that “as a responsible institution we will cooperate with the police authorities.”

When asked what would be there future course of action, he said “we will go by the report of the investigation.”

The police has taken cognizance of the matter and have registered the case FIR vide number 82/2017 under section 306 to investigate further.

Talking to Kashmir Life, SP Sopore Harmeet Singh said that they have started questioning to investigate the matter.

“We are trying ascertaining the links, if there are any,” he said and added that “suicide note is admissible under law and we may have to arrest the accused.”
