To mark the anniversaries of late Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and late Muhammad Afzal Guru, Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir (HCJK) has called for complete shutdown on February 9 and 11 next month as part of “Hafta-e-Shahaadat” (Martyrdom Week).

The amalgam is also going to organize a seminar on February 6 to pay tributes to the Bhat and Guru and has appealed for organized protests to press for the return of their mortal remains.

According to a statement a meeting held at Hurriyat Conference JK head office here at Sanat Nagar in which, Shabir Ahmad Shah presided and was attended by senior leaders Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Yusuf Naqash, Shabir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Iqbal Mir and Muhammad Yasin Ataai, the present political situation of Jammu Kashmir was discussed thoroughly and Hurriyat Conference’s strategy of reaching up to people was also deliberated

Terming the hanging of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru as murder of democratic values, Hurriyat Conference JK reiterated its pledge of taking the mission of martyrs to its goal. “We will not leave any stone unturned to accomplish the mission of our martyrs,” the leaders vowed.

To pay tributes to duo, Hurriyat said it will organize a seminar on February 6 next month in which it would be pledged to struggle at both political and diplomatic level for the achievement of the mission for which martyrs rendered their precious lives.

Calling for complete shutdown on February 9 and 11, HCJK has appealed people to register strong protests to make the world body know that we will not compromise with the freedom at any cost.

The amalgam said its leaders will march up to United Nations Military Observer Group (UNMOG) office on February 10 to submit a reminder to the group. “The reminder is an appeal to return the mortal remains of Shaheed Maqbool Bhat and Shaheed Afzal Guru and to urge the Security Council to resolve the Kashmir issue by implementing UN resolutions.”

During the meeting, the leaders vehemently condemned the Jan 21, 1990 brutal massacre at Gaw Kadal by the hands of Indian forces. The leaders also paid glowing tributes to those martyred on that fateful day and expressed satisfaction that despite India’s oppression, people of Kashmir continued their struggle for freedom.
