SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, VK Birdi, on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive review of security arrangements at Pahalgam to assess operational preparedness ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra-2026.
During the visit, the IGP inspected the X-ray screening point and reviewed the passenger and baggage screening mechanism. He directed officers to ensure strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain seamless coordination among all security agencies, and carry out thorough screening to facilitate a safe and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees.
Birdi also visited the Nunwan Base Camp, where he assessed the overall security architecture, including deployment plans, surveillance systems, access control measures, and emergency response preparedness. He interacted with officers and security personnel deployed along the Yatra route and appreciated their commitment towards ensuring foolproof security arrangements.
Reviewing the multi-layered security framework, the IGP instructed officers to remain on high alert, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and ensure effective implementation of all security protocols.
He stressed the importance of proactive policing, continuous monitoring, and swift response to any contingency to ensure the smooth, peaceful, and incident-free conduct of the pilgrimage.
The review was attended by DIG South Kashmir Range Javid Iqbal Matoo, DIG Yatra Sameer Sharma, SSP Anantnag Amod Ashok Nagpure, besides other senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The visit was part of a series of inspections being undertaken by senior police officers to review preparedness and further strengthen the security framework ahead of the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra-2026.
