SRINAGAR: Gradually, Srinagar is emerging as the Covid19 epicentre even as Kashmir dominates the overall numbers in the pandemic’s new run. On Friday, 96 of the155 cases were reported in Srinagar and Kashmir accounted for 133 cases. This indicates that more than two-thirds of cases are reported from Kashmir and mostly from Srinagar.

In the last 24 hours one Covid19 patient died in Chest Disease Hospital Srinagar, officials said.

Right now, Kashmir has 1199 active Covid19 cases of whom 752 belong to Srinagar, 138 to Baramulla and 132 to Budgam. Jammu has only 241 active cases.

The trend continues for the last many days.

In the last five days including today, Jammu and Kashmir reported 717 cases of which the Jammu region accounted for 141 cases and Kashmir 546 cases. Interestingly, 396 cases were reported from the Srinagar district alone. This means that Kashmir accounts for 76.15 per cent of the cases reported in the last five days and Srinagar alone accounts for more than 55 per cent of cases.

So far, in the last two waves, Jammu and Kashmir had an overall infection to its 327621 citizens in all the 20 districts. Of them, 321765 recovered and 4415 were killed. In Kashmir, 2247 people were killed by the pandemic of which Srinagar accounted for 838 deaths. However, Jammu city topped the list in 20 districts with 1143 deaths.
