SRINAGAR: The Jammu Kashmir Government has said a total of 170 vacancies have been referred to the Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) for recruitment under the Combined Civil Services for 2024 and 2025, with just 68 seats falling under the open merit category.
According to official data tabled in response to a question by MLA Dr Bharat Bhushan, 90 vacancies were referred to the PSC for the 2024 examination and another 80 for 2025. Of these, 36 open merit seats were announced for 2024 and 32 for 2025, spread across the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS), Jammu Kashmir Accounts Service, and Jammu and Kashmir Police Service.
For 2024, the reserved category breakup includes six seats each for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), and nine each for Residents of Backward Areas (RBA), Line of Actual Control/International Border (LAC/IB), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). The total number of posts across categories stood at 90.
For 2025, the pattern remained similar, with seven seats each reserved for SC, ST, RBA, LAC/IB, and EWS categories, bringing the total number of vacancies to 80.
The Government informed the Assembly that the recruitment process is being conducted under the Jammu Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination Rules, 2018, which stipulate that the examination is to be held periodically in consultation with the PSC.
“The Government has endeavoured to refer vacancies to the JKPSC annually, typically in the month of January,” the reply stated, adding that the process of filling up these posts is presently underway and is at different stages of the examination cycle.
The Government did not specify a fixed completion date for the ongoing recruitment but said efforts are on to ensure that the selection process proceeds smoothly and regularly to prevent ad-hocism in administration.
