SRINAGAR: Jammu Police have arrested three key operatives of an interstate narcotics syndicate in Amritsar, Punjab, in a major breakthrough against narco-terrorism and organised drug trafficking, recovering arms, ammunition, heroin, cash and vehicles during a coordinated operation.
The arrested accused have been identified as Surajdeep Singh alias Suraj, a resident of Jandiala, Harpreet Singh alias Raju, and Jaspreet. The arrests were made in connection with multiple cases registered at Police Station Miran Sahib (FIR No. 51/2026), Bishnah (FIR No. 58/2026), Nagrota (FIR No. 137/2026) and Gangyal (FIR No. 48/2026).
Police said the accused were major suppliers of narcotic substances into Jammu district and were allegedly responsible for supplying nearly 80 per cent of the drugs trafficked in the area. The operation was launched following sustained surveillance and intelligence-based investigations.
Officials said the accused were part of the backward link network of notorious narcotics trafficker Lau Gujjar and his associates operating across Jammu and Kashmir. Investigations into earlier NDPS cases and questioning of several arrested individuals, including Lateef, Bachu, Majeeda and Mushtaq, led police to Suraj and Raju, identified as key links in the supply chain.
According to police, the accused supplied narcotics to around 20 forward links operating across Jammu district and adjoining areas of Samba and Kathua, playing a central role in the distribution network.
The joint operation was carried out by teams of the Emergency Support Unit (ESU) Jammu, Police Stations Miran Sahib and Bishnah, investigating officers from both police stations, and Punjab Police. Extensive searches were conducted at the suspects’ premises.
During the operation, police recovered one AK-47 rifle with 40 live rounds, one Star pistol with 29 live cartridges, and four live 12-bore cartridges.
They also seized around 1.020 kilograms of heroin, an electronic weighing machine, packaging material and adhesive tape used for drug distribution.
In addition, police recovered approximately Rs 11 lakh in cash, three mobile phones, and three vehicles — a Mahindra Thar, Honda Amaze and Maruti Swift — allegedly used for transportation and logistical support of the illegal network.
Police said the operation dealt a significant blow to narco-terror networks operating between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. Further investigation is underway to identify additional links and dismantle the wider network.
Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to curbing drug trafficking and narco-terrorism, stating that strict action will continue against those involved in such activities to ensure a drug-free society and strengthen public safety. (KNC)
