Police have launched investigations into a fresh case of robbery in which a group of gunmen looted Rs 1.2 million from Malpora branch of J&K bank.
“Bank officials told us that they were three or four youth who were armed, who brandished weapons, beat a few people and took the cash,” SSP Budgam told Kashmir Life. “They say they left in a car towards Pulwama.”
It was in the afternoon that four youth barged into the Malpora branch and forced the staffers to hand over the cash. “They took whatever we had,” one official said.
The looted bank is a small branch that operates in Malpora since more than last two years. Almost five kms from Chrar-e-Sharief, the branch has a serious accessibility issue. It is being run by three persons of whom one is a branch manager. Malpora has an access route to Pulwama as well.
When Kashmir Life contacted the bank officials, they said they are in the process of registering a case with the police.
A senior police officer in Srinagar said the bank was looted by militants. “We are in the process of identifying the group responsible behind for the robbery,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, police pressnote stated that “a massive manhunt has been launched to arrest the culprits who have robbed the J&K bank in Budgam, this afternoon”.
A case has been registered (FIR number 60/2016) by the Budgam police.
