SRINAGAR: Accusing the ruling National Conference (NC) of sabotaging the last three days of the Assembly session, Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Monday said that Jammu and Kashmir, being the only Muslim-majority province in the country, should have passed a resolution on the Waqf Amendment Act.

Speaking to reporters, Lone said he was not surprised by Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement supporting the Speaker’s decision to disallow discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill passed in Parliament.
“I fail to understand whose concerns the NC legislators were raising in the Assembly. The party has 50 MLAs, and the Speaker is also from their ranks. Yet, they missed the opportunity to discuss the bill and pass a resolution on it. They sabotaged the discussion on the Waqf Act to appease the BJP,” he said, adding that Jammu and Kashmir, being the only Muslim-majority province, should have passed a resolution on the Act to send an emotional message.
He said passing the resolution in the Assembly could have sent a clear message. Instead, the party chose to sabotage the final three days of the session to appease the BJP. (KNO)
