Authorities for the second consecutive Friday barred people from offering Friday congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Old City.

The roads leading to the grand mosque manned by a posse of police and paramilitary have been protected by drop-gates and concertina wires, thus preventing people movement around.

Reports reaching Kashmir Life suggest that the authorities have intensified clampdown in the area keeping in view the signature Friday protests that erupt nearby Jamia Masjid after Friday prayers.

Since July 9—a day after popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed along with his two associates in Kokernag—the Old City is reeling under continuous clampdown. The continual curfew has reportedly triggered a “humanitarian crisis” in the area with people complaining about the paucity of basic necessities.
