The Dhunseri Polyfilm project, which will span over 300 kanals and be completed in two phases by 2026, is expected to generate 1,000 employment opportunities and boost the rural economy of the region. The LG said the state-of-the-art BOPP production unit will open new business avenues and create thousands of jobs for local youth.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony, LG Sinha said, “In recent years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a new work culture centred on industrial growth that benefits all sections of society.” He added that infrastructure development is driving J&K towards becoming the principal market in the north and a manufacturing and services hub.

The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the role of the region’s young and skilled workforce, calling them the drivers of J&K’s economic future. “We are witnessing an era of rising aspirations. Our youth are taking charge of their destinies and shaping a vibrant and industrious society,” he said.

LG Sinha noted that districts like Jammu, Kathua and Samba have made remarkable industrial progress under a transparent and progressive policy framework. “Unless industries are established, development will remain a dream,” he remarked.

He also warned citizens to stay vigilant against disruptive elements attempting to destabilise the region’s growing economy, tourism, and communal harmony.

Later in the day, LG Sinha inaugurated the Kathua Waterfront project, a 1,200-metre stretch along the Kathua Canal developed as part of a landmark urban rejuvenation initiative. The multifunctional space includes walking, cycling, and skating tracks, yoga zones, and a food street with 15 cafes and restaurants. The project has created around 150 jobs, most of which have gone to women.

Calling it a transformative step in enhancing Kathua’s livability and cultural vibrancy, LG Sinha said, “Every city and village has a soul. Infrastructure like the Kathua Waterfront helps shape identity, nurture community spirit, and improve the quality of life.”

He also inaugurated the Integrated Command and Control Centre and flagged off a Bicycle Rally as part of the celebrations. The LG directed officials to identify rural areas for upcoming Rotary Club surgical camps and to ensure that all urban rejuvenation projects are sustainable and climate-resilient.
