SRINAGAR: During a high-level meeting convened at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed preparations for the upcoming visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Katra, scheduled for June 6, 2025. The visit will mark the formal inauguration of the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab and the flag-off of the Vande Bharat train service connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
“Make the inauguration a memorable one,” LG Sinha appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, urging public participation in the landmark event.
The 272-kilometre Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), of which the Chenab Bridge is a part, has been hailed as India’s most ambitious rail project. Once operational, it will offer year-round rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, bridging a crucial gap in the country’s transport infrastructure.
The Chenab Bridge, now set to be formally dedicated to the nation, is an engineering marvel and stands as the world’s highest railway arch bridge at a staggering height of 359 metres. Officials described it as a “symbol of a resurgent India” advancing toward its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The preparatory meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Additional DGP Armed Anand Jain, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, IGPs and SSPs from relevant districts, and senior officials from civil and police administration.
Security arrangements, crowd management, protocol procedures, and event logistics were among the primary subjects discussed during the meeting. The Lieutenant Governor emphasised smooth coordination between civil and police authorities to ensure the successful execution of the event.
