SRINAGAR: The Union Minister, Nityanand Rai, revealed in Lok Sabha on Tuesday that incidents of militant violence and infiltration have witnessed a decline in Jammu and Kashmir over the past two years. As of June-end this year, there have been 26 recorded incidents of militant violence and no net infiltration.
Elaborating on the statistics, Rai mentioned that in 2022, there were 125 militancy-related incidents and 14 infiltration cases, while in 2021, there were 134 militancy incidents and 34 infiltration cases.
As per the union minister, the government has implemented various measures to curb militant activities in the region, including proactive counter-insurgency operations, identification, and arrest of over-ground supporters of militants, as well as the deployment of police, Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for night patrolling and area domination.
“The attachment of properties belonging to terrorists and their associates under relevant sections of the law, sharing of intelligence inputs among all security forces on a real-time basis, and intensified Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) are undertaken to thwart any incidents in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said in a written reply to a question.
Furthermore, Rai said that the government has adopted a well-coordinated and multi-pronged strategy to tackle cross-border infiltration. This includes the tactical deployment of forces at the International Border (IB)/Line of Control (LoC) and the use of technology like surveillance cameras, night vision cameras, heat-sensing gadgets, etc.
Multi-tiered deployment along the IB/LoC, border fencing, deployment of intelligence personnel to collect advance and target-oriented inputs on infiltration, and ambushes and foot patrolling by the Army and Border Security Force have also been undertaken.
“The establishment of border police posts for generating local intelligence and taking proactive action against infiltrators are other actions taken by the government,” he said.
