The event was conducted under the patronage of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and the mentorship of Justice Atul Sreedharan, Executive Chairman of the J&K Legal Services Authority. The Chief Justice inaugurated the Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex in Poonch, where he emphasised the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in ensuring quick and affordable justice.

Chief Justice Rabstan personally inspected various benches, interacted with judicial officers, advocates, and litigants, and highlighted the need to prioritise family disputes, particularly child custody cases. “Such matters affect innocent children who have no role in the litigation. Resolving these amicably ensures justice and a better future for the child,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Judge of the High Court and Administrative Judge for District Jammu, inaugurated the Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex in Jammu. He stressed the significance of resolving matrimonial disputes through Lok Adalats to prevent family disintegration. Justice Sanjeev Kumar also distributed compensation cheques to beneficiaries during the proceedings.

The event saw active participation from government departments, which set up awareness stalls for public benefit. The Social Welfare Department distributed wheelchairs to beneficiaries, and children attending the event received gifts.

The Chief Justice also visited the District Court Complex in Rajouri, where he distributed Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cheques and interacted with judicial officers and bar members. The visits were marked by discussions on the effectiveness of Lok Adalats and assurances to address local demands raised by bar members.

Member Secretary of the J&K Legal Services Authority, Amit Kumar Gupta, praised the collaborative efforts of judicial officers, advocates, and para-legal volunteers. He highlighted the significant role of the media in creating awareness about Lok Adalats and legal aid schemes.

With these proceedings, the National Lok Adalat reinforced its role in delivering swift and cost-effective justice while reducing the burden on conventional courts. The next Lok Adalat is scheduled for March 8, 2025.
