A day after a police officer removed the black film on the vehicle of Kashmir University Vice Chancellor Professor Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, State Police Chief K.Rajendra said that the incident will be probed only after he receives a written complaint from the complainant.
“There is no need to inquire the matter as everything is on the video. Policemen have to do their job,” Rajendra told news agency CNS.
He however, added that anybody having any complaint or grievance is free to submit that before the authorities. “Let the Vice Chancellor submit his complaint against the police officer, we will inquire the matter,” the Director General of Police said.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi said that he will submit a formal written complaint against the police officer on Tuesday. “I have already talked to Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Mr BB Vyas and tomorrow (Tuesday) I will submit a complaint in black and white,” he said.
Divulging information about the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sheikh Adil told CNS that it was a basic police exercise and before checking the vehicle with tinted glasses, the police had checked more than 100 vehicles. “I have great respect for the Vice Chancellor but the fact is that he was not present in the Vehicle in question but was occupying a Taveera that was also challaned for not having proper documents. I only did my duty and there was nothing personnel,” he said.
The police officer vehemently denounced the allegations that he uploaded the video on his personal facebook account. “I was being tagged and each time a friend tagged me with this video I untagged it just for sake of VC’s dignity,” he said and added that it was not in his hands to stop the media men from shooting the incident.
