SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told U S President Donald Trump that India will not accept third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue. The stance was conveyed during a 35-minute phone call on Tuesday, following recent hostilities with Pakistan.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said Modi reaffirmed India’s long-standing policy that all matters with Pakistan, including Kashmir, must be resolved bilaterally. He clarified that the recent ceasefire was achieved through direct military channels and not U.S. involvement.
“India has never accepted mediation, does not accept it, and will never accept it,” Misri said.
The conversation comes after U.S. claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Modi told Trump that there were no talks of mediation or trade deals during the military standoff.
The call followed India’s Operation Sindoor—precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam. Modi briefed Trump on the limited and targeted nature of the operation, underscoring India’s resolve to act against cross-border terrorism.
