Jammu-Srinagar Highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the world, remained cut-off from rest of the world with air and road traffic suspended due to fresh snowfall on Monday. Officials in police department said that “almost 2000 Jammu bound light and heavy vehicles are stranded on highway near Ramban.”
The plains and higher reaches of valley including summer capital witnessed light to moderate snowfall and intermittent rain since last evening.
A senior police official is quoted to have said that the Highway was closed Monday for the vehicular movement because of heavy snowfall and rain at several places.
“Due to landslides caused by fresh rains and snowfall at several places on the crucial Srinagar-Jammu national highway including Jawahar Tunnel, Patnitop, Qazigund, Banihal , Batote and few parts of Udhamur district, the highway was shut. We also witnessed heavy rainfall at Ramsoo and Ramban which are landslide prone areas,” he said.
The officer further said that if weather and road conditions improve, they would clear first the stranded vehicles.
