SRINAGAR: Describing the Pahalgam terror attack as “heart-wrenching,” Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra said on Wednesday that the Congress party would not engage in politics or raise questions about the incident at this time.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Karra said the party stands in solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives in the attack.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the deaths of more than two dozen tourists and left several others injured.
“This is a moment of grief, not of politics. The country needs unity, not division,” Karra said. However, he noted that questions concerning security and possible lapses would be raised “at the right time.”
He added that, beyond issues of security, other important questions also needed to be addressed, and that the Congress would seek answers at an appropriate stage.
Emphasising the need for unity in the face of such threats, Karra said that senior Congress leaders had spoken to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, and the Chief Minister of the Union Territory.
“For now, we share this grief, and all parties in the country should stand united to confront such emerging threats,” Karra said. (KNO)
