SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated Anji Khad Bridge Anji Khad Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, shortly after inaugurating the Chenab Railway Bridge. The Anji Bridge is India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge and a critical component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
The strategically important bridge spans the deep gorges of Anji Khad, offering a vital rail connection through challenging Himalayan terrain. Officials said the structure will significantly enhance rail connectivity in the region, contributing to the overall goal of seamless and all-weather integration of the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi interacted with engineers involved in the construction of the project, including retired personnel who had contributed to its development.
The Anji Bridge adds to the USBRL’s ambitious infrastructure plan, which includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges constructed at a total estimated cost of Rs 43,780 crore. The project is expected to transform mobility in the region and strengthen socio-economic development.
