While reacting to media reports suggesting that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had snubbed Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde for the way parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged without informing his family, Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani termed it as ‘too little too late and akin to wiping tears’.
“As the Prime Minister of the country, he would have known and would have given directives. It is insignificant now and nothing more than wiping tears”, said Geelani while talking to KNS from New Delhi.
He said the conviction and hanging of Guru was bereft of legal sentiment. “The family should have been allowed to meet before Shaheed Guru was hanged. To add salt to the wounds, the body is not being handed over either”, Geelani added.
He demanded handing over of the body of Guru and the mortal remains of Maqbool Bhat to Kashmiris at the earliest.
On speculations by the media that the separatist leadership was in touch for coming together and forge strategic unity, the Hurriyat (G) Chairman said the issue has not been discussed yet. He said the issue would be discussed after they return to Srinagar.
On Hurriyat Conference (G) call for Friday, he said the conglomerate had asked people to visit ‘martyr’s graveyards’ at the respective places to offer Fatehah to Guru and other martyrs. “People should assemble near the Mazar-e-Shohda at their respective places to offer tributes and fatehah to the martyrs apart from offering funeral prayers in absentia for Shaheed Muhammd Afzal Guru after Friday prayers”, clarified Geelani.
The Hurriyat (G) Chairman said the attitude of authorities at New Delhi was inhuman towards him. “It is sheer high handedness. I am not even being allowed to sit in sunshine outside my house”, he added.
Meanwhile, clamming that it will intensify efforts to get back the mortal remains of martyrs from the Government of India , Hurriyat (G) has said that the nation will stick to its demand until their demand was fulfilled.
According to a statement issued to KNS, the conglomerate has condemned the house arrest of its chairman Syed Ali Geelani at New Delhi. The statement said that Geelani was not allowed to come out of his room in Delhi.
The spokesman said that Geelani wants to express solidarity with the family of Afzal Guru and others who achieved martyrdom during the recent anti execution protests.
Criticising the role of National Conference, the conglomerate said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had played role in execution of Afzal Guru ‘ like his father Dr. Farooq Abdullah had done at the time of hanging of Maqbool Bhat.
Hurriyat (G) appealed people to hold funeral prayers in absentia at martyr’s graveyard Eidgah on Friday after offering prayers. The conglomerate said people will reinforce the demand for returning of the body of Afzal Guru and the mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat.
Terming the local rulers as ‘traitors’ the Hurriyat has condemned the use of force, arrests and crack downs by the police against the innocent civilians’.
