Police on Saturday arrested an army soldier for allegedly abducting a girl from Mendhar area of border Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Incharge Station House Officer (SHO) Mendhar Abdul Karim said that they have received reports about the soldier has kidnapped a girl and was hiding somewhere near a temple in Mendhar area.

Soon after getting the information, a police team was deputed to the spot where the soldier Gulshan Singh thrashed one of the cops resulting in minor injuries to him, he said.

He identified the injured cop as Nissar Ahmad Shah. The soldier was immediately overpowered by the other personnel part of the police team and taken into the custody, the officer said.

Singh who was on leave and had returned yesterday from his home Dasba village in Hosharpur district in Punjab stayed in a local hotel in Mendhar last night.

Naik Gulshan Singh belonging to 11 Sikh Regiment and is presently attached with 49 RR posted at Balakote sector. “He had hatched the conspiracy” to took the girl outside and the timely intervention of the police nabbed the soldier,” the officer said.

He said that the 17-years-old girl (name withheld) is studying in class 10 and is a resident of Kashba Poonch at present Rehlan Gohlad and later handed over to her parents.

A case FIR number 53/ 2018 u/s 363 RPC has been registered against the soldier and further investigations were taken up, the SHO added. (GNS)
