SRINAGAR: Poonch, Ramban and Doda account for the largest share of 3,34,639 houseless families identified under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) in Jammu and Kashmir, the government informed the Assembly on Thursday, highlighting a sharp concentration of housing deprivation in these districts.

Replying to Un-starred Assembly Question tabled by MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj said Poonch tops the list with 49,260 houseless families, followed by Ramban with 35,419 and Doda with 30,412, making them the most affected districts in the Union Territory. The data indicates that housing vulnerability is particularly acute in parts of Jammu division, with Reasi (29,646), Kathua (23,337), and Udhampur (23,034) also reporting high numbers.
In comparison, districts in Kashmir valley show relatively lower figures, though Anantnag (11,035) and Kupwara (10,896) continue to report significant houseless populations. Urban district Srinagar recorded just 69 such families, the lowest in the Union Territory.
The government said that 2,637 beneficiaries have so far been provided land to enable construction of houses under the scheme, while a fresh survey has been conducted to identify those left out in earlier phases. These cases form part of 5,02,930 entries recorded under the PMAY-G 2.0 survey conducted through the Awaas+ 2024 platform.
It added that verification of beneficiaries is underway at district and block levels, and land is being facilitated for eligible landless households in coordination with the Revenue Department. Regular monitoring is also being carried out to ensure timely implementation in line with central guidelines.
The figures underline significant regional disparities in housing access, with districts like Poonch, Ramban
