The projects, cleared by the Omar Abdullah-led government, include Rs 37.96 crore for Baramulla and Rs 34.43 crore for Rajouri. They are designed to ensure scientific sewage treatment, reduce environmental pollution, and improve hygiene and living conditions in the two municipal areas.

Formulated by the Housing and Urban Development Department, the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have been prepared under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 CAPEX component. The proposals were technically vetted by the National Institute of Technology Srinagar before approval.

The projects will employ Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technology, a biological treatment process known for high efficiency in treating wastewater within a single operational cycle. Officials said the system is intended to deliver sustainable and long-term solutions for urban sewage management.

Both schemes are scheduled for completion within 18 months, with authorities stating that the initiative is expected to significantly improve sanitation infrastructure and contribute to cleaner water bodies in both districts..
