SRINAGAR: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to urgently hear a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking cancellation of the India–Pakistan cricket match scheduled for September 14 in the Asia Cup T20 tournament, according to multiple media reports.
A bench led by the Chief Justice JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi declined to list the matter for immediate consideration, observing that the court could not interfere in sporting events on such short notice. The petitioner had argued that the match should be called off in view of prevailing tensions between the two countries, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The bench, however, indicated that the plea would be taken up in the normal course, without granting any special urgency.
The India–Pakistan clash, one of the most anticipated fixtures of the tournament, is set to take place this weekend amid tight security arrangements.
