Expressing serious resentment over the recent statement of Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad wherein he stated that there are no ‘mass graves’ in Kashmir, separatists Saturday said  that the denial of the ground situation has become the ‘hallmark ’ of the authorities here.

Huriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani while reacting to DGP’s statement told KNS that the issue of mass graves must be investigated on the international level and that the independent inquiry teams across the globe must investigate the matter thoroughly. “One must ask DGP that if they are sure that there are no mass graves in Kashmir, then why the Indian government is reluctant in initiating the inquiry by international human rights organizations.”

Geelani further stated that under a planned conspiracy, the mass graves in Kashmir are being ignored at every level, so that there would be no record left of the same. “If the police chief claims that there are no mass graves, let the Indian government issue a statement of same nature so that the world would come to know that how the truth here is being buried with the sadistic approach,” Geelani told KNS.

Chairman Huriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq told KNS that the independent inquires on  Kashmir’s mass graves must be initiated at the earliest so that the truth could come to fore and that world community would come to know the ground situation of the ‘troubled’ state. “The mass graves have already been identified by various rights organizations and the denial of the facts cannot be legitimized at any level.”

Mirwaiz added that there is no logic behind the claims of the police chief and the petition pertaining to the issue of mass graves is already at the High court. “We need to understand that the claims made by the authorities over the issue can never be synonymous to facts and therefore let the Indian authorities allow the probe by the international organizations over the issue.”

Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammad Yasin Malik while commenting over the issue said that  for the sake of argument, he is ready to accept the statement of police chief that there is  no mass grave in Kashmir, provided the whereabouts of more than 10 thousand disappeared people would be revealed to their dear ones. “We want to ask them where are those 10 thousand people who were arrested in front of their families and then never returned home. No bigger human tragedy on earth is greater than the tragedy with the families of the disappeared persons.”

Malik added that the physiological trauma has been inflicted on the people here through the torture of disappearances. “Their wives are being called half-widows and their children don’t know whether their father is alive or they have become orphans.”

Dukhtaran-e-Milat (DEM) chairperson Asiya Andrabi said that the statement of the police chief is contrary to the ground situation and it vindicates that the authorities here are in the mode of complete denial of the ground situation. “They are terming day as night and vice-versa. People here have full knowledge about the issue and the statements of police authorities have no credibility on ground.”
