SRINAGAR: India has begun the first phase of evacuating its citizens stranded in Iran amid the ongoing Israel-Iran hostilities. Around 110 Indian medical students, including seven from Kashmir, have been successfully evacuated from Urmia Medical University and are now safe in Armenia.
Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) National Convenor Nasir Khumani said the evacuated students, including seven from Kashmir, crossed the Iran-Armenia land border overnight and are currently travelling by road to Yerevan.
“They are expected to reach the Armenian capital by midday (12 or 1 PM),” Khumani said after speaking with several evacuees en route.
The Indian Embassy in Yerevan has arranged onward travel. The students are scheduled to fly to New Delhi on a chartered flight on Wednesday. Upon arrival in Delhi, they will be facilitated back to their respective home states, including Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
