A teenage youth who was injured critically during intense clashes between government forces and protesters near encounter site at Badigam village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday, May 6, 2018 succumbed to his injuries at SMHS hospital on Tuesday morning.

Sources said that Tauseef Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, a resident of Nagbal, Imaam Sahib, in Shopian district had sustained a critical bullet wound in his abdomen during the clashes.

He was shifted to nearby hospital where from he was referred to SMHS Srinagar hospital in critical conditions where he had succumbed after battling for three days, they said.

A doctor confirmed the death and said that he had firearm injury in the abdomen.

As the news reached Bhat’s hometown, the youth have resorted to stone pelting in the area. On Sunday five civilians were killed after forces fired at protesters at a number of places in south Kashmir when the encounter was going in Badigam Shopian.

In the encounter, four militants including top Hizb commander Sadam Padder and KU assistant professor Dr. Mohamad Rafi Bhat were killed. The gunfight broke out in Badigam village early on Sunday, May 6, 2018, after the joint team of Army, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
