The Strategic 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway remained closed for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday, due to heavy snowfall at Zojilla pass.

The 86-km-long historic Mughal road and the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway, however, are through.

Traffic remained suspended on 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway for the fifth day today due to the accumulation of snow and slippery road condition.

Fresh snowfall last week at Sonamarg, Zojila, Meenmarg and Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, forced authorities to suspend traffic, he said, adding that traffic remained suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent any accident.

However, the project vijayak has cleared snow from Shatan nallah to Gumri on Monday and Beacon authorities has been cleared from Sonamarg to Pani-Matha.

Meanwhile, the Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was through for only one-way.

The highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was also through traffic.

However, he said people are requested to undertake the journey on the highway only after confirming the status of the road from Traffic Control Units (TCUs) set up in Srinagar, Ramban and Jammu.
